Suzuki Law Offices is pleased to announce that our Phoenix criminal defense attorneys have secured a Not Guilty verdict in a recent drug crime case that went to trial. Our client, who was found Not Guilty on multiple counts, was accused of possessing a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia. If convicted of the charges, our client would have faced up to 7.5 years in prison.
According to prosecutors in the case, our client was alleged to have had drugs inside a purse, which was located next to where she had been sitting at the time of arrest. During trial, our defense attorneys argued successfully to convince the jury that there were a number of problems with the prosecution’s narrative and what led to the arrest and charges. This includes multiple mistakes committed during the police investigation, problems with the chain of custody, and other individuals who were seen around the purse in which the drugs were located. Our defense team also noted for the jury all the inconsistencies in the police officers’ testimony, discrediting law enforcement and effectively establishing reasonable doubt in the case.
After a long and hard fought trial, the jury returned a unanimous verdict of Not Guilty on Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Thanks to the diligence, commitment, and trial skills of our Phoenix criminal defense lawyers, our client was exonerated of the serious charges she faced, and will no longer have to fear the substantial prison sentence and additional penalties that would have been imposed upon a conviction. Such a result was secured in large part as a result of our abilities to conduct our own independent investigations into what happened during and after the initial arrest, our ability to shine a spotlight on law enforcement’s procedural conduct, and ability to establish reasonable doubt that ultimately led the jury to side with our client.
This case result is a testament to the unyielding work ethic that has allowed our firm to succeed in protecting the rights, freedoms, and futures of many clients charged with serious crimes, including those involving drug offenses and felonies. It also speaks volumes about the benefits of working with proven defense attorneys who leverage decades of collective experience, insight as former prosecutors, and extensive resources when fighting for the accused in and outside of the courtroom.
