Two individuals have lost their lives in a car accident that occurred in Capitol Reef National Park. The two-vehicle car accident happened along Highway 24 not far from the part of the park known as Twin Rocks. Police say that the two vehicles involved were a Chevy truck and a Scion passenger vehicle.
Allegedly, the truck was traveling westbound along the highway when for unknown reasons it drifted over onto the right-hand shoulder of the road. The driver tried to regain control of the vehicle but overcorrected, which sent it into oncoming traffic. That is when the truck hit the Scion, which had been traveling in the opposite direction.
Neither of the two individuals in the Scion -- a 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman -- had been using their seatbelts. Both of them were killed at the accident scene. The individual who was driving the truck, on the other hand, survived after suffering only minor injures that required transportation to the hospital. Authorities closed Highway 24 for some time while the crash scene was cleared and investigated.
